The fluorescent lights flickered slightly, bouncing off the pristine walls of the underground training facility. Avery adjusted her sky-blue crop top and matching leggings, her breath steady, her gaze fixed on the holographic map projected in front of her. The room, sleek and modern, didn’t betray any of the secrets it held – secrets she was about to risk everything for.
“You’re really going through with this?” came a voice from behind. Felix stood leaning against the modular couch, his arms crossed. His dark hair was damp from his own training session, and his expression flickered somewhere between worry and admiration. “You’re breaking into HelixTech alone?”
Avery turned to face him, her cropped ponytail swaying. “I don’t exactly have a choice.” She gestured to the map, which showed a towering skyscraper surrounded by a grid of red beams and barriers. “HelixTech has my designs. They’ve weaponized them without my permission. Stolen tech, my tech, is now being used to build their next line of combat drones. They need to be stopped before they go into production.”
Felix pushed off the couch and walked over, his boots clicking on the polished floor. “I get it, Ave. I do. But it’s not just tech anymore. It’s a fortress. They know you’ve been trying to hack their servers. They’ll be ready for you.”
She smirked, her vibrant blue outfit catching the soft glow of the hologram. “And that’s why I won’t be playing by their rules.” Avery reached into a hidden compartment of the coffee table and pulled out a small device. It looked like an ordinary fitness tracker, but Felix’s expression changed as soon as he saw it.
“Is that…” he started, his voice dropping. “Is that the tracker you were designing for the Sentinel Program?”
“It’s a prototype,” Avery confirmed. “It’ll suppress my biometric signature for two hours. They won’t know I’m there until it’s too late.”
Felix rubbed the back of his neck, glancing at the map again. “And then what? What happens when they find you?”
Avery shrugged, her confidence radiating. “That’s where the leggings come in. Flexible, lightweight, and resistant to energy blasts. This whole ensemble isn’t just for style.” She tapped her crop top. “Lining’s reinforced with insulated fibers. If things go sideways, I’ll have a fighting chance.”
Felix exhaled, shaking his head. “You’re unbelievable. The sky-blue vigilante, outside the law, standing up to the biggest megacorp in the world with a prototype and coordinated activewear.”
“It’s not just activewear,” she quipped, stepping back to study the map one more time. “It’s freedomwear. Now, are you going to help me hotwire their drones, or are you just going to stand there looking impressed?”
Felix sighed and grabbed his toolkit. “You’re going to get us both killed, you know that, right?”
“If that’s the cost of taking HelixTech down,” Avery said, slipping the tracker onto her wrist, “then it’s a price I’m willing to pay.”
