“What the hell?” Kayla hissed, squinting at the screen. The familiar pastel-hued wallpaper of her desktop had been replaced. Now, there stood what appeared to be a digital version of herself. She was rendered in exaggerated pixel tones, wearing the very same crop top and shorts she had on in the real world. Kayla-2.0, as the character superficially called to her mind, smirked coyly as if she could see her watching back.<\/p>\n
“Finally noticed me, huh?” the voice rang out, startling Kayla from her crouched position next to the coffee table.<\/p>\n
“No. Freakin’. Way.” Kayla scrambled backward and nearly tripped over the plush toy. Carefully, she approached the laptop again, half expecting the effect to disappear in some elaborate prank orchestrated by her followers. But the digital version of herself moved, reaching outward, palms pressed flat against the monitor frame. The colors of the character seemed to ripple, bleeding faintly over the laptop’s edges as though she were caught in a liquid crystal prism.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlright, cool it, sci-fi mode. This must be… I don\u2019t know, malware or something,\u201d Kayla stammered, her heart pounding. Her hands hovered over the escape key but never touched it. The rendered version laughed, a delicate chime reminiscent of gaming voiceovers.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not malware, but good deduction. I\u2019m the glitch.” The pixel-woman tilted her head. “Your glitch.”<\/p>\n
\u201cExcuse me?\u201d Kayla frowned. \u201cI don\u2019t do glitches. I’m the queen of clean builds!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNot this time,\u201d the voice came again, erratic and teasing. The uncanny shimmer grew brighter for a moment, softening Kayla\u2019s features reflected faintly on the screen as though the pixels recognized and responded to her doubts.<\/p>\n
The glitch continued. \u201cEvery gamer has a blind spot, and for someone too perfect like you\u2014the glitch is the error you didn\u2019t prepare for.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, come on,\u201d Kayla muttered finally giving her laptop keys same invalid FIXESTo-loop? Suspicion grew thick parallel!<\/p>\n
